Title: The Fault in Our Stars

Author: John Green

Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Drama

If you are reading this review and happen to not know what the book is about here is a trailer for the movie soon to be released. http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2313071897/

I have seen two types of children with illness. It doesn't even need to be a terminal illness, just one where the child knows it will never go away. I have seen children with seizures, diabetes, migraines, among others. A child might believe they are entitled to be pandered to and they tend to be spoiled snots. The other type tends to grow up too soon. They mature faster and lose the ability to live without being conscience of consequences. This book had none of the first type. The characters were older than they should have been. I thought for the most part it was well done.

The different characters kept using the words metaphorical resonances. After the first few times it began to feel like the author was trying to be existential, but the platitudes tended to fall a little short. Maybe I am just not deep enough.

I didn't end up as emotionally invested in the story as I think I was supposed to. I might have gone into it with too many expectations. I did find parts humorous, but I did not laugh out loud. I also did not cry despite the sad frame the story takes.

Overall I gave this book 3 stars out of 5.
