Waking Hours
Title: Waking Hours (East Salem Trilogy #1)
Author: Lis Wiehl
Genre: Mystery
Published: October 4, 2011
A high school girl, Julie, was murdered at a party in a possible ritualistic manner. Dani Harris who was a forensic psychiatrist and Tommy Gunderson, a new private investigator, were brought in to consult on the case. Throughout the town strange this kept happening such as an elderly woman making threats in Latin.
The mystery itself was interesting and well thought through. There were clues along the way and the end of Juli's portion was tied up mostly. The killer's motivation stayed sketchy. The reason given for the killer's actions were believable, but the methodology used was not explained. Why was Julie the chosen victim? Why was she killed that way?
There were a lot of questions posed throughout the story. Things of metaphysical and potentially theological in nature. Those question were left unanswered. Even Tommy and Dani found it frustrating. I think I would be even more frustrated if I didn't have access to the sequel.
I did enjoy the humor. At several points I would laugh and repeat out loud the line I had enjoyed.
Overall I gave this book 3 stars out of 5.
