Title: Festive in Death (In Death #39)
Author: J.D. Robb
Genre: Mystery
Published: September 9, 2014
I will freely admit this is one of those few series where I go to the store and buy the book the day it is published. Problem came when I got the bookstore they didn't have it yet. I figured it was a big chain they really should have had it. They told me they could order it for me if I wanted. It took three days for the book to come. I know this has no real bearing on my opinion of the book, but I did want to express my frustration.
This book was more lighthearted and funny than the previous few have been. I found myself laughing on more than one occasion and reread more than one passage because I had really enjoyed them.
The mystery felt as if it was secondary to what was happening in Eve and Roarke's world. The Christmas holiday preparations and celebrations were more central than trying to solve the murder. I think this made it more obvious who the killer was, but honestly the rest of the story almost made it so the mystery part of the book was just something to get through to so the reader could get back to the fun part.
Overall I gave this book 5 stars out of 5.
